POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Independent Contractor Vascular Access Specialist

Position Summary: Practice autonomously to assess patients of Health Care Institutions (“HCI’s”) for vascular access and placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) or Midline (ML). Assess patient for appropriate PICC/ML placement, perform insertion and educate patient and staff where needed in care of line.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. When on-call schedule, returns calls for request for line placement, from the HCI, within 30 min unless in sterile procedure and then immediately when completed.
  2. Performs phone screening for indicated contraindications or special considerations for line requested.
  3. Arrives at HCI in timely manner, triaging requests.
  4. Controlling the manner and means of placement within the confines of law and accepted nursing practice, exhibits competency in the placement of PICCs and MLs.
  5. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful accurate manner to adult and geriatric population.
  6. Serves as a resource person for HCI on questions concerning care of lines.
  7. Works with HCI staff to ensure knowledge of line placed and answer any questions.
  8. Completes documentation accurately and in timely manner. Files documentation in accordance with HCI requirements.
  9. Send appropriate documentation to company for clinical review of results and to facilitate payment for Services rendered.
  10. Maintains ongoing knowledge of INS standards of practice.
